The output is transformer-balanced with original custom-designed toroidal transformer.

We’ve designed the Bumblebee Bb-D2 DI to provide the high fidelity input stage for instruments during the direct recording or live reproduction. It is well-known that the input stage has the highest influence on signal in the whole signal chain. So, it is wise to use the best possible solution for the first device that directly interacts with your instrument.

The very high input impedance of Bumblebee Bb-D2 provides the proper loading for your passive pickups. Correctly loaded pickup coils tend to open up their sonic character in finest details. It is particularly obvious in hi-mid range, adding contour and clarity to the sound. Furthermore, the precision input Jfet reproduces and amplifies these specifics with ultimate authenticity.

I use this DI for about 2-3 years now. I have many great preamps at the studio but when I plug my bass into their DI inputs, there is always something missing. Whith this little yellow box everything is fine. Bass is a very critical signal to record. Especially the passive ones. Even if I record into my Clarett thru this DI, the basses have life and vibe.
PS: unfortunately this is not a sponsored review. Can you hear me, Arthur? xD
Any downsides? Yes! Its yellow. Deal with it.

My goal as a mixing engineer is always: to get the low end and the vocals right in any venue. As electric bass is an intricate part of this, i was looking for a good solution. Because of the higher impedance (10M) of the Bumblebee than a regular active DI (500K/1M), the sound is a tad scooped, which takes all the low midrange mud out of the bass signal and just gives it the fundamental note, deep, pure and the beautiful texture up top. Loads of space for other instruments in the mix, while retaining unbelievable pressure and resolution.

After 2 uses, I ended up curious, as to how far i could push this thing. Upgraded most of the parts with even more expensive parts (Dale CMF resistors, Styro/MKP/MKS capacitors and an additional LC Filter on the power input. And It’s a yellow beast now. The resolution and sound pressure coming from the stage is out of this world. I’m very happy with it. I’ve tried 60€ Palmer (the middy mud), tried the 300€ Neve ( the clearer midfocused DI), the Radials (the standard)…but THIS is the king. sadly i could only afford one… :-).

Thank you Artur for a great easy to build kit that is addictive to listen to and play through. And it for sure sounds different than any other active/passive DI out there.

I purchased one yesterday, I mounted the kit and decided to buy another one today! Incredible sound, very accurate, high fidelity with the source. I tested it with a bass and electric guitar, with the my keyboards (in mono) and it was fantastic! So I decided to buy another one to have the possibility to record with stereo. I never had this sound before with another DI. I own the Manley Dual Mono Tube Direct Interface and I can say that the BB-D2 is better for me!
Thank you very much, Artur, for your work and for the deal!
